Fuquay Varina Is The Place To Be This Halloween Weekend!

Fuquay Varina Is One Of The Great Communities Of The Triangle

Downtown Fuquay VarinaOne of the great perks of managing the Avalon Springs neighborhood is getting to know Fuquay Varina.  I will admit that all I knew about Fuquay before Avalon Springs was the interesting sounding name of the town itself.  But one of the m favorite parts about my work at Avalon Springs has been discovering all the great things about Fuquay Varina.  From the downtown shops to the many fun community events, Fuquay Varina is truly a gem of the Triangle.

Fuquay Varina has no shortage of fun events this Halloween weekend.  Thanks to the downtown Fuquay Varina website for all the below information.

Trick or Treat Event Friday October 30, 2009

Halloween Trick or Treating in downtown Fuquay Varina The Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association is pleased to announce that the merchants on Main and Broad Streets in the    historic shopping district will sponsor a Trick or Treat event on Friday, October 30 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm .  Last year, this event  was a tremendous success because it provided a friendly, safe environment for the little ones to enjoy the holiday. It’s easy to    participate!

Dress-up your lil’ ghosts and goblins, grab a bag and visit the merchants on Main and Broad Streets that display the sign,“Trick  or Treat Here!” The merchants on Main and Broad Streets promise to scare-up lots of treats and fun for your family, so make sure  to visit them on Friday, October 30 between 2:00 – 5:00 pm.

Fuquay Varina Downtown Festival and Chili Cook-Off

Please join us for the 7th Annual Downtown Chili Cook-Off in Historic Downtown Fuquay-Varina on Saturday, October 31st.  The event is part of the Day in Downtown Festival which draws more than 7000 people to downtown for a day of family fun. The Cook-off is becoming quite a Fuquay-Varina tradition!  In 2008, ten chili cook-off teams competed for the $500 grand prize and hundreds of people tasted great chili all day long!  All this good natured, fun, competition helped raise much needed funds for downtown revitalization in the heart of downtown Fuquay-Varina.

In addition to a first place prize of $500, there is a second place prize of $300 and the third place winner will receive $150. All awards are voted on by the public.

If you’re not a cook, but you love to eat chili, come on down to the Downtown Chili Cook-off on Saturday, October 31st from 10:30 am – 3:30 pm and taste, taste, taste!! You can taste all the chili entries for $5.00. We’ll be located in the large parking lot on Main Street near Cooley’s Restaurant.

Stop By Avalon Springs

When you are done trick or treating or before hanging out at the downtown Festival be sure to stop by Avalon Springs which is only minutes from downtown.

Are You Ready For Some College Football Here In The Triangle?

My husband is beside himself.  This week for him is like the week leading up to Christmas day for kids.  Saturday is his Christmas Day because it means the start of College Football.  Lucky for him I love college football season as well!  The Triangle is a great place to spend Falls because of the great weather and three ACC College Football teams competing right here in our backyards – well not literally in your backyard but if that does happen for any reason let me know and I can recommend a good landscaper to re sod your back yard :)!

There is nothing like going out to a football game on a clear, clean, crisp Fall Saturday to join family and friends tailgating before the game.  The smell of grills cooking yummy foods, football’s sailing through the air, flags flying high and your favorite drinks flowing make College Football tailgates the place to be on any Saturday in the Triangle.

We are very lucky in the Triangle to have 3 Division 1 teams playing some great football in the ACC.  Regardless of who you root for there is bound to be some great college football action in the Triangle this Fall!

Kenan Stadium is a beautiful place to watch college football.

Kenan Stadium is a beautiful place to watch college football.

The Tarheels are on the rise and projected to be in the hunt for the ACC crown this year.  If you have not been to Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill then plan a Saturday to go because it is one of the most beautiful stadiums in all of college football.

The Wolfpack are also a top contender this year with their quarterback Russell Wilson one of the top QB’s in all of the ACC.  NC State fans can tailgate with the best of them in college football.  They open this Thursday night against South Carolina on national TV so safe to say it will be a wild Thursday evening out at Carter Finley Stadium.

The Wolfpack and their fans will be fired up and ready to go Thursday night!

The Wolfpack and their fans will be fired up and ready to go Thursday night!

Last but not least here in the Triangle are the Duke Blue Devils.  It is a fact that Duke football has struggled for attention but head coach David Cutcliffe has definitely fired up the team and the fan base out in Durham.

Now I can’t leave out my alma mata Elon University, even though they are technically not in the Triangle, they are still only about 1 hour away and they will be one of the best teams in the tough Southern Conference this year.  Hopefully this will be the year they beat Southern Conference power and rival Appalachian State.  If you want to see a great high powered offense then be sure to watch an Elon game this fall!

Finally I have to mention my husband’s (he did help me write a lot of this blog!) favorite team the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  The Notre Dame fight song usually starts playing about 8:00am in our house and does not stop until well after the game is over!  He is confident that this will be a great year for the Irish and trust me we will be watching every play.  Regardless of what you think of Notre Dame I can say first hand after going to a game in South Bend that if you like tradition then you will love Notre Dame football!

I have said it over and over again but the TRIANGLE is a great place to live.  The list why continues to grow and College Football in the Triangle is another great item to put at the top of the list.  When I am not showing houses on Saturday then I know I will be watching college football live or on TV.  And if we need to work your home search around your favorite teams schedule on a Saturday then no problem because I know how it is!

I am here to help your home buying or selling process now or in the future so please let me know how I can help.  Good luck to all of the Triangle’s College
Football teams this Fall!

Great News For Those Of You Who Love To Hike Outdoors

I love spring time as I espcially love spending times outdoors with my husband, 2 girls and our 2 dogs – I think the dogs love it the best.  Living in North Raleigh is a great place to play outdoors as we have easy access to all the trails and open areas of Falls Lake and the Neuse River.  I recently read an article and was excited to hear that a new 8 mile section of green way in North Raleigh will be open in the future thanks to the new stimulus package.  Whether you agree with the stimulus package or not we can all enjoy improvements like this.  My 2 dogs Jeter and Brady are especially thankful.  See below for some more information on the green way expansion from the News & Observer article.  Click here to read the entire article.

Hope to see you on the trails – current or new!

RALEIGH — A new section of the popular Neuse River Greenway will soon grow by nearly eight miles, from the Falls Lake dam to the WRAL soccer fields off Perry Creek Road, becoming a link in the emerging Mountains-to-Sea Trail — and the American taxpayers are helping to pay for it.
Raleigh expects to receive about $3.25 million in federal economic stimulus money to help pay for the project, which city bond voters approved two years ago. The greenway eventually will meander south 28 miles to the Johnston County line.  A group called Friends of the Mountain-to-Sea Trail hopes some of the state’s share of federal stimulus funds can be used to expand parts of that statewide trail and others across North Carolina.

Fuquay Varina Starts its Centennial Celebration

Fuquay Varina, one of the Triangle’s fastest growing towns, kicked off its centennial celebration this week.  As popular places to live like Cary get more and more built up towns like Fuquay Varina are predicted to be the new hot spots. Fuquay Varina features great neighborhoods inlcuding Avalon Springs (a lot more on Avalon Springs coming soon!), South Lakes, Brighton Forest, Southern Oaks and Crooked Creek to name just a few.  Click here to read more about the Centinnial Celebration and learn how Fuquay Varina got its name.  One of the biggest questions I get asked is how Fuquay Varina got its name….well it was originally called Fuquay Springs and you will be interested to learn through the article how it became Varina!

Whether it be the up and coming town of Fuquay Varina or another great town in the Triangle, let me know how I can help as I am ready to serve all your real estate needs!
